Hi all!
I have recently gone to an Indian shop, and after contemplating on spending my whole salary in there, I decided to try the split chickpeas in my cooking, to change a little from my normal way and see if I could come up with a new recipe.
So last week I made up this dish that I think is perfect for winter, m since I am a lover of easy cooking it was super easy to make so I thought I share it with you.
all you need is about 2 cups of split chickpeas that I soak for about 2 hours before cooking them.
I prefer to rinse, soak anything that I buy, for both health reasons and hygienic.
Boil the Dahl for 20 mins, or when it becomes a little softer. we will be putting it in the oven anyway so it will cook a little more.
in a ceramic bowl put the other veggies that you want to flavour the dahl. I started by layering some fennel, some chopped carrots and some apples! I started using apples in my savoury recipes. I think they bring a touch of freshness to the dish.
Add the pre-boiled dahl on top, and have fun with the seasoning.
Rosemary is my staple, and to make this dish spicy I used 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper. Be careful with it! It’s spicier than it looks like, I have learnt my lesson by crying from the hotness in a couple of dishes I made recently đ Olive oil to accompany the cooking, and add about 1cup of warm water
Put in the oven for about 40 mins, stirring every 15 mins.
You can add more water if you think it getting drier, it all depends also on what veggies you choose to put in with the dahl.
Don’t forget to top it up with some good old curry and turmeric before you take it out! about 10 mins before it’s ready its perfect. Last but not least, add as many spices as you like! I now love split chickpeas, and their nuttier flavour make cooking way more interesting!
Enjoy! xx
